FIRST THINGS FIRST:

If you want to explore informal and formal place settings at a greater length click here.   This is a great website!

It has everything you need to know about flatware, serveware, glassware, etiquette, manners and more.  You can always pin it and go back to review it a later time.

Since we are hitting the decorating portion of table setting today, I just wanted you to have something to refer to….. when it is time to set up for your actual holiday dinner!!

SETTING A FALL TABLE IN 8 EASY STEPS

SUPPLIES FOR 6-8 GUESTS:

1)  CORE SUPPLIES

  • 6-8 gold chargers
  • 6-8 dinner plates (mix & match)
  • 6-8 bowls (mix & match)
  • 6-8 napkins
  • cake stand
  • buffalo check runner (not pictured – see below)
  • 6-8 placemats (not pictured – see below)

***TIP*** I used a blue and white theme, but use whatever colors you want (just keep the core supplies in TWO colors).

2)  ACCENT SUPPLIES

  • 2 glass hurricanes
  • 2 white pillar candles
  • 2 glass jar candles
  • 2 bling votive candle holders
  • 2 candle votives
  • 2 milk glass flower holders
  • 2 white flowers
  • 3 white sized pumpkins

***TIP***Use whatever accent color you like (just keep the accent supplies all in ONE color palette).

3)  TEXTURE SUPPLIES

  • large textured orange pumpkin
  • small pumpkin
  • 2 natural beaded garland strands
  • assorted pinecones
  • assorted acorns in orange & gold

***TIP*** These are all in the WARM color palette – orange, brown, natural, and gold tones.

This keeps the blue and white from looking too cold and stark.

…….and the show stopper.  The one final addition that MAKES the entire table come to life!!  It is THE final accessory must-have.

Here are the 8 Steps for Setting a Fall Table

STEP 1:  Runner + Placemats

Put your table runner in the center of the table (longways) and place your 6-8 placemats down.  My table setting has 6, just because I don’t have my leaves in.

For a table setting of 8, everything will work the same.  Simply add 2 extra placemats to the sides so that you will have 3 and 3 on each side.

***NOTE*** I only use 4 placemats on my setting so that more of my buffalo check runner would stand out.  It is just my personal preference.

When using the setting for function, I would add my other 2 placemats at the ends.

STEP 2:  Chargers

Add your 6-8 gold chargers.

The gold picks up the WARM tones in my TEXTURE supplies.  This will make a big difference to your overall color palette.

So whatever colors you choose, just make sure your chargers and texture go together.

STEP 3:  Dishes

Now you can add your 6-8 dishes/plates.

I used 4 salad plates (on sides), and 2 dinner plates (on ends)…..just for the decorating purposes only!!

I always like a little CHAOS to my method – lol!! and the smaller salad plates allow for more of the gold charger to show.

If you are using the setting for function, you would use all dinner plates.

STEP 4:  Napkins + Side Bowls

Add your 6-8 napkins and lie on all of your plates at a diagonal. Then place 4 (or 6) bowls to the side settings.

The bowls on the end settings will be different.

As noted in the article I linked above, the napkin on the plate is an option for a formal place setting.  You can also add the napkin to the side of the plate if you want.

I like the diagonal position on top of the plate because it adds movement to an otherwise “clean lines” table setting.

STEP 5:  Cake Plate +  End Bowls

Next add in your cake plate to the center (or just left of the center) and your 2 end bowls.

I have the cake plate in the center here on the picture to the right so you can see it easier.

I like things a LITTLE funky, so I moved it to the left so that the flowers could stand out more (see step 8).

I also mixed the bowls up so that it isn’t so matchy-matchy.

TOP VIEW:

***TIP*** When mixing a lot of different patterns, keep the colors the same using different sizes/scales.

I have used blue and white:  buffalo check (runner), polka dot (side bowls), large medallions (placemats), small geometrics (napkins), and stripes (end bowls).

STEP 6:  Add ALL Accent Supplies

So, now you will add ALL of your accents onto the table runner.  Each one will be placed at a diagonal like the picture below shows.

You will see that I placed 2 white pumpkins into the 2 end bowls, and one pumpkin under some extra napkins (in front, left of the cake stand).

TOP VIEW:

This design is for those of you who like a little DRAMA!!!  If you like a more simplistic look, you can skip steps 6-8.

STEP 7:  Add Texture

Place your larger pumpkin onto you cake plate and weave your beads in between your white accent supplies.

Once you like the placement of the beads (sometimes you have to play with this part just a little), you can sprinkle in your other textured supplies.

TOP VIEW:

***TIP*** Use the other textured supplies to FILL IN the holes in your decor.  I always like to throw in the pine cones, acorns, and extra pumpkins so that they look random.

They look more natural if lying sideways or clustered like they “fell” onto your runner.

STEP 8: Vase +Flowers

GO FROM FABULOUS TO FUNCTIONAL:

Simply replace decorations with serving dishes and your are ready to host your dinner party.

WOOHOO!!  BRING OUT THE WINE + WINE GLASSES!!

Fall Home Tour 2018

Hello Fall and Welcome to our Fall Home Tour 2018!!  It was definitely bittersweet this year setting up fall decorations throughout our house since we are just now getting settled back in.  It’s hard to believe that it was just a little over a year ago, that Hurricane Harvey hit TX and caused thousands of houses to flood, including our home.

I will never forget that I proudly posted my very first blog article Blue and White Fall Dining Room – on Friday, August 26th, 2017, and then our house flooded that Monday, August 29th.  So for that reason, I think the fall season will always hold a special place in my heart.

Looking Back to Fall 2017:

I have shed some tears while looking back at those first three fall posts I did from last year…..  BUT…… it has also been a time of healing, gratefulness, and joy.

That terrible experience has actually showed us the true meaning of the words “blessed” and “thankful.”  I could not dream of a better place to begin the season of thanksgiving than to have a fresh beginning/fresh start – LIVING in our”new” home.

****FYI*** Click Here (Fall Foyer 2017) or Here (Fall Living Room 2017) if you want to see the changes we made and compare last year’s posts to this year.

Looking forward to Fall 2018:

Our family is finally getting back to normal – haha!!, and I am so excited for the new plans God will have for us going forward 🙂  Now let’s get to it – Fall Home Tour 2018!!

FALL HOME TOUR 2018

Fall Foyer

Loving the yellow??!!  Me too!!  In my foyer I decided to use golden & mustard yellows, and then mixed in a leopard print ….. love how it came together.

***TIP***  Add yellow by using :  a wreath, pom pom flowers, and cable knit throw blanket.

The golden tones give the blues a punch of color, and of course a little wow factor.  I also mixed in some bronze and gold tones to soften the bold yellows.

And of course of my “LOVE & HUGS” signs!!!  I threw in the cute little white pumpkin along with a couple of bronze berry stems to pick up the bronze in the letters.  I also added the bronze berry and pine cone stems to the candle sconces on the bottom shelf (see below).

I will post a tutorial on painting my World Market Console Table blue soon- it really changed the look of my entryway.  I just need to add some knobs to the drawers to finish it off!!

On the love pillow below, I added this little dot and leopard bow for a punch of gold tones.  I simply pinned it to the pillow so that I can remove it when fall is over.  I wanted to add something to tie in the yellow, but not be too matchy-matchy!!

FALL DINING ROOM

So, I changed out my lamp shades (to navy) and table runner (to blue buffalo check) for the fall time and then added in some other goodies.

I will do a separate post on Setting a Fall Table in 8 Easy Steps later this week!!  It will show you how to decorate using layers…..going from simplistic decor to over-the-top decor.  I did have a TON of fun with the dining room!!

Obviously, this is a view from the over-the-top design (no pun intended) – which I personally love!!  It’s so fun to mix different patterns using similar shades of blue for BIG impact!!  This design is for those of you who want a little drama to your fall decor!!

***TIP*** Here is a different look:   by changing the direction of the buffalo check runner…. you can really simplify the design.  I also added the cute wooden tray to hold all of the goodies in, and to drape the beads.  This design gives the room a more stately, elegant look.

Which one do you prefer?

FALL LIVING ROOM

*** A little quiz for you. ***  Do you like Option 1) Blue Vase & white pumpkin with the sign?  or Option 2) Orange pumpkin with the sign?  Shoot me your feedback in the comments section below!!  Can’t wait to see which one is the winner!!

Option 1)

Option 2)

I used some additional leopard ribbon for my iron pumpkin to give it a custom look and to tie it in to the living room decor as well.  It’s kind of like modern farmhouse meets vintage glam!!

***TIP*** Leopard print ribbons & fabrics are great to use during the fall season because they tie in the warm orange, yellow, and brown tones….. ALL in one print.

***UPDATE***   I finally found the throw pillows and rug that I needed to complete the living room and kitchen – YAY!!!

I love how the dark blue colors pull in the colors from the plaid throw (on the ladder), and pick up both the blue and spice-y orange tones in the kitchen.

Sometimes all you need is one perfect item to blend all of the elements together.

FALL KITCHEN

HOOK ‘EM HORNS!!! & GO RED RAIDERS ……CAN’T FORGET ABOUT MY HONEY 😉

I hope you will be inspired to have the fall home of your dreams!!

HAPPY FALL EVERYONE!!  LOVE & HUGS 🙂
