We just recently moved into our “new” old house, and are almost done with the remodeling/renovations. Yay! And since one of the reasons we fell in love with this house was because of all of the lighting options – we knew that it definitely needed a whole house lighting “Glow Up” – lol! We also wanted to use mixed metals this time around instead of just one finish like our last home (w/nickel finishes). So let’s get to all of the choices we picked for Our Whole House Lighting Plan: Mixed Metals!

Our Whole House Lighting Plan: Mixed Metals
In our last home (that we lived in for 19 years), I decided to stay in the “silver” (nickel and chrome) family for all of our lighting choices.
So in this home, I wanted to change things up a little and really do whatever I wanted (lol – #midlife crisis). Where basically I had no rules and picked whatever made me happy!!
But going this “rebel” route, I found that my choices still had a coordinated/cohesive look, and I thought I’d share some things that I learned along the way.
Cohesive/Coordinating Lighting Tips:
- stay with 3 lighting finish colors: black, gold, silver (chrome or nickel)
- use one color in lighting, pull that color out in next adjoining room (furniture, counter top, etc).
- choose a different metal than counter top or cabinet color for a contrasting look/choose same metal for a monochromatic look
I’ll do another post with more info on mixing metals soon!
Lighting Cost:
Our lighting project cost ~$6,000 for (46) indoor lights which covers all:
- chandeliers (9)
- sconces (8)
- pendants (2)
- fixtures/vanities (4)
- closets/hallway (10)
- undermount lights (13)
I just wanted to show that you can light a whole house without breaking the bank! You’ll just have to decide where you want to splurge, and where you’ll want to save – to stay within your budget 😉
Ok let’s get to it! Our Whole House Lighting Plan: Mixed Metals!
