First Things First:

I just wanted to say that this process was much easier than I originally thought.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed or nervous, I would simply read through the whole post first.
That way you’ll be able to see the entire process (& calm those nerves). 😉

Second:

I installed our light sconces using puck lights, but you can also use rechargeable light bulbs instead.

It just depends on – how much you will use your sconces (a little or a lot).
And if you would rather change out batteries or recharge light bulbs.

Supplies:

Gold Light Sconce
Puck Lights w/Remote or (Rechargeable Lightbulbs w/Timer)
Phillips/Flathead Screwdrivers
Tape Measure
Pencil
Level
Hammer
(2) Anchors here, (SELF-drilling anchors here)

Step #1: Remove Mounting Bar From Sconce

Step #2: Measure & Mark Spot Onto Wall

Step-By-Step Guide

Step #1: Remove Mounting Bar From Sconce

The first thing you will do is unpack your sconce.

Then I would pull out the instruction sheet, take a look it, and get familiar with the parts & terms.

But since we are only attaching the sconce – and NOT hardwiring it, you don’t have to study that section too much 😉

Then you might want to put a towel underneath the sconce for this next part – but you don’ t have to.

Gently turn the sconce on to it’s back side and put the lamp shades to the side.

Remove Mounting Bar:

Ok, now it’s time to remove that silver “mounting bar” from the sconce.

Just simply unscrew the 2 GOLD small screws – on each side. (I also removed the green screw on the inside).
Then you will either use the 2 screws (included in the small bag with those orange caps), or use your own screws. But you will need anchors (the blue things below) – either way.
If you use your own screws, just check to make sure they fit into the mounting bar.

Step #2: Measure & Mark Spot Onto Wall

FYI: You will probably need your step ladder for this part.

Ok, it’s time to measure the exact spot on the wall your sconce will be installed.

Measure/Mark Center:

First: Measure & mark the center on your wall – for mounting bar.
The recommended height for a wall sconce – is (60″- 72″H),
Since I wanted mine a little higher – I marked my spot at 72″H. But it’s totally up to you – it’s your home!

Mark 2 spots On Wall:

Second: Mark the 2 spots on your wall – for anchors/mounting screws.
Take the mounting bar and center it around your marked spot.
Then you will mark one spot to the right (in the kidney shaped area – white arrows below).
And mark one spot to the left (in the kidney shaped area – white arrows below).
Use the little circles to the sides as your reference (blue arrows below).

Check Alignment:

Third: Check marks with level – for straight alignment.

Hmmm…. So you can see from the picture above that my left mark seems to be a little lower.

And I guess that is why the level is recommended – LOL!
It’s always better to double check alignment – before your sconce goes up though!

Step #3: Attach Mounting Bar To Wall

Now that you have your spots marked (and they are in a straight line), it’s time to put in your anchors and mounting screws.

Different Methods For Attaching Anchors:

So there are a couple of different ways to do this:

Standard way – using a drill bit, drilling a hole, putting in anchor.
Jael’s way (picture below) – NOT using a drill, but large nail/hammer, then anchor.
Newer way – NOT using a drill, but a self drilling anchor.

Jael’s Way:

This is how I always put in anchors/molly bolts – it’s my own little hack – and it works.

I use a larger nail – hammer it in straight.
Then I hammer it to the left several times.
Then I hammer to the right several times. And then I repeat this (Left & Right process) for 2 more times.
Next I turn my nail until I can see that the hole is getting bigger.
And then I test my anchor – to see if the hole is big enough – and then hammer my anchor in.

OR you can always use the standard way or new way with the self-drilling anchors. 😉

Then simply attach the silver mounting bar – using your Phillips screwdriver and 2 screws – into the anchors to secure.

Step #4: Attach Light Sconce & Shades To Wall

Now you will attach the light sconce to the wall – securing it those 2 gold screws – from Step #1.

Then you will attach both of the lamp shades – using the white round “out ring” to secure them.

Problem Solving for Uneven Sconce:

If you’re sconce is crooked (mine was still a little lower on one side), simply remove the 2 gold screws and take the sconce off the wall.

Then Check Alignment With Level

Go ahead and check your alignment with your level again.

Then Turn Mounting Bar (right or left) To Fix

At this point don’t panic if the holes are not exactly straight.

Those little “kidney- shaped” screw holes actually allow you to turn the mounting bar (clockwise or counterclockwise) to straighten an uneven light sconce.

Just loosen the screws to turn (until you get it straight). GENIUS idea!

Step #5: Add Pucks Lights To Light Sconce

Now it’s time to add your puck lights – I just love whoever came up with this idea!!

(Of course you can also use the rechargeable lightbulbs that screw in).

So, I bought a six pack of puck lights with remote – because I do plan on installing a couple more of these light sconces.

TIP: Check diameter sizes if you are NOT using the same sconce as me. You want to make sure that the puck light fits into your light sconce. 😉

Light Sconce Shade Diameter: Mine are 3.75″ diameter (at top)
Puck Size Diameter: Mine are 3.4″ diameter

Pull 2 puck lights out, remove the back cover and plastic tab, and test out.

Then you will remove both sides of the paper – so that both sides are sticky (and adhesive).

You will simply place it onto the light socket inside the sconce.
Then you will put the puck light onto the sticky tab, and press down gently to secure.

This part is a little tricky, so it might not go on exactly in the center (like mine). I did better on the 2nd one – haha!
