Sherwin-Williams Color of the Year 2024: Upward
(+ Color Forecast)
For this post we will be focusing on:
- Sherwin-Williams Color of the Year 2024: Upward
- Sherwin-Williams Color Forecast
Sherwin-Williams Color of the Year 2024: Upward
So before we begin diving into all of the colors, let’s go over some terms.
- R,G,B = Red, Green, Blue color values (0-255)
- Hex code: 6-digit code that represents R,G,B value
- LRV = Light Reflective Value (0-100), 0 = darkest light, 100 = brightest light
And I won’t get too technical on this post, but just wanted to give you a brief summary of how the paint chips are configured and grouped.
Upward SW 6239 Details:
-
LRV: 57
- RGB: 191 / 201 / 208
- Hex Value: #BFC9D0
- Location Number: 224-C1
- Blue Paint Family

In Summary:
Since SW Upward has a LRV: 57 (out of 100) – this means that it will read medium-to darker and not bounce off too much light.
- So it does not read as a pastel color.
It is also in the blue paint family, and you can see that it has a higher percentage of blue: 208 (out of 255).
- This means that it is a cooler color.
My Thoughts:
I personally feel like it is a beautiful chameleon color which can go with:
Both warm & cool colors – there are not too many colors like that.
- greens (warm + cool)
- mauves (cooler tones)
- yellows (warm + cool)
- southwest terra cotta + clay + earth tones (red oranges)
- dusty rose + bronze rose (red browns)
- beiges + tans (warmer tones)

My Opinion:
- I love that the colors are soft and soothing, but yet add a punch of depth and energy as well.
- It is a well-rounded color palette that allows you to work with soft neutrals or dark colors – when decorating.
- Honeydew is out-of-the-box (for me personally), but it keeps the palette fresh & whimsical.
- I think this forecast is a good mix of cool colors (Upward, Honeydew) and warm (Antiquarian Brown, Palm Leaf) – which is becoming more and more popular with painting + home decorating.
So let’s get to some fun! How we can actually use some of these colors!

Hopefully, you get the gist.

Decorated (warm palette):
Here is something similar from Pottery Barn.

- Can you pick out the colors yourself now?
(Let’s pretend the yellow flowers are green like SW Honeydew and the trees outside represent SW Palm Leaf) 😉
