DIY Spring/Easter Pink Hydrangea Basket: Front Door Wreath
4 Steps:
- Add Pink & Coral Hydrangeas to Basket
- Make Bow from 2 Ribbons
- Attach Bow to Loop of Basket
- Add Jute String & Hang on Front Door
Step #1: Add Pink & Coral Hydrangeas to Basket
The first thing you will want to do is add your 2 soft pink hydrangeas bushels to your hanging basket.
- I always like to separate my bushels by pulling them apart a little.
I feel like they look more realistic this way and they will fill your basket better.
Now, you will simply add your 4 coral hydrangea stems to the basket.
I started off with placing one in the front.
Then I added the 3 other stems in the middle, right, and left of the pink hydrangea bushels – so they look randomly placed.
- You might have to play around with the placement so that it looks natural.
- I also had to pull the pink hydrangeas apart (again) just to make the entire bouquet fill the basket.
I love the 2 different shades of pink. It really makes the entire floral arrangement look more realistic and expensive (to me).
Step #2: Make Bow from 2 Ribbons
Now it’s time to add some ribbons and bows to soften the basket a little bit.
I made a huge bow from the tan gingham check ribbon and then simply added the peach-y/coral ribbon to the top for a punch of soft color.
1st Ribbon: Tan Gingham Check
- I measured about 3 ft. for the ribbon that would wrap around the bow. This is important because you will need a long ribbon (for step 3 – attaching it to the basket.)
- Then you can make a large bow and leave 2 long ribbon strands so that it hangs from the basket (when tied on).
- I forgot to measure the actual bow length (but it’s probably around 65+ inches).
2nd Ribbon: Peach-y/Coral
- I measured about 50″ for the entire bow.
- I made a bow with 2 large (loose) loops and tied it on top of the gingham bow – using the gingham ribbon.
Sorry that the finished picture isn’t very good quality – bad lighting on this one 🙁
Step #3: Attach Bow to Loop of Basket
For this part you will simply take the top gingham strand (that you used to tie the bow) and attach it to the loop in the back of the basket.
You will have to move your flowers a little bit to be able to get to the loop, but then just fluff them up again when you’re done.
I tied it just to the right side of the loop so that it wouldn’t show through the flowers (if I tied it to the top of the loop).
I think it hides the ribbon more, but feel free to do what works best for your basket.
This is what it will look like completed (below) – love it!
- Just shift your flowers and leaves around to cover the gingham ribbon, and fluff your bow as needed.
- I wanted my bow to look “loose and drape-y,” so I gently pulled down on the gingham bows to give it more of a relaxed vibe.
Step #4: Add Jute String & Hang on Front Door
You’re at the finish line!
Simply tie a long jute string to the back loop of the basket and hang on your door hanger.
I just let my jute string hang from the door hanger.
- but you can use clear string (so you can’t see it at all) or
- the tan gingham ribbon (if you want to see it)
Oh – and – you might have to clean your door like me 😉 – LOL!!
WOOHOO! YOU ARE DONE!!
I do love this sweet little basket – it really makes me smile.
- But….. can you see the bike riding passing by (left lower window pane) – and photo bombing my “after” pictures – haha!!
Better – no photo bombers on this one!
Here’s a closeup picture. So cheerful and cottage-y!
I’ll end on this one. I took the pic from my car as I was leaving the house.
That’s just how it works sometimes!!
Have a very Happy Spring and Easter everyone!!
Love & Hugs 🙂
