If you are looking for a simple yet elegant fall dining room table decorating idea, this one should work out great! I mixed in a couple of wheat bundles with the ochre stoneware plates and jute chargers – to give it a casual feel. Then I kept the fall centerpiece cake stand, runner, and accent pieces all in soft shades of white, ivory, and cream to add subtle contrast. Next I added the elegant amber wine glasses to tie all of the elements together, and to add a little warmth. Let’s get to it! Fall/Thanksgiving Table Decor: Amber + Ochre.

Fall/Thanksgiving Table Decor: Amber + Ochre
I know you are not here for a color lesson, but I was curious (so I thought I’d share).
So what is the difference between amber and ochre?
Amber: According to Wikipedia – it is a color located midway between yellow and orange.
Ochre: According to Wikipedia – it is a color that ranges from yellow to deep orange or brown.
I decided to plug the hex values into canva so that we could all see how that really translates.
In a nutshell they are both warm colors, but amber reads more yellow/orange whereas ochre reads more orange/brown.
- amber = more yellow/orange
- ochre = more orange/brown
Now, do we all feel better? LOL!
Ok now that we have that covered let’s move on to why you are REALLY here!
How to set a Fall/Thanksgiving Table: Amber + Ochre.
Fall/Thanksgiving Table Decor: Amber + Ochre
Here are the supplies that I used.
Supplies:
Centerpiece + Table Decor:
- Ivory Runner
- 2 Wheat Bushels – similar here or (here to make your own)
- 1 White Cake Stand + Glass Hurricane/Ivory Candle
- 4 Ivory Candles
- Small White Pumpkins and Gourds
Place Settings: (6)
- White Dinner Plates and Bowls
- Ochre Salad Plates
- Round Jute Chargers
- Amber Glasses – similar here or here
- Blue Dinner Napkins – similar here
- *Flatware (silver)
*I recommend using silver flatware for this table setting, since there is a lot of gold/warmer tones.
I didn’t use the pictures with my flatware out – so it would be easier to show you visually.
Let’s get moving to the 3 easy steps: Fall/Thanksgiving Table Decor: Amber + Ochre!
Fall/Thanksgiving Table Decor: Amber + Ochre
3 Easy Steps:
- Set Up Your Centerpiece
- Set Up Your Place Settings
- Add Table Decor/Accessories
Fall/Thanksgiving Table Decor: Amber + Ochre
Step #1: Set Up Your Centerpiece
The first thing you will do is place your ivory table runner onto the table.
Then you will add your white cake plate, hurricane with candle, and 2 wheat bushels – to the center area.
- These 3 items + the runner will anchor your fall table.
I found these wheat bushels at Home Goods, and chose them because of the beautiful dark burgundy/brown velvet ribbon.
- They were the inspiration for the entire table decoration this year.
I know it’s hard to tell from the pictures, but the wheat has a hint of gold glitter on the top.
Who said that casual had to be boring – right??
- I just have to add some sparkle!
Step #2: Set Up Your Place Settings
Now it’s time to add your place settings.
You will basically add 2 colors/layers for your BASE:
- ochre and white
Then add one additional color for your ACCENT:
- the light blue dinner napkin
This is how I set mine up:
- I used a round jute charger and salad plate – that were both ochre in color.
- Then I went with my “go-to” white dinner plate/bowl combo – for contrast.
- I completed the look with the light blue dinner napkins – accent color.
- And then I added one amber (colored) glass and one antique crystal (clear) glass -to tie it all together.
(Can you tell in the picture below that the white bowl is not centered – lol! I will line things up, and triple check all of the items before I take pictures…. & then there’s always one little friend who does not play nice)!!
Ok, carry on! 😉
TIP: Don’t forget to use things that are special and mean something to you.
I love to use these napkins that my mom monogrammed for us – because they always make me smile!
My mom also bought the beautiful antique crystal (clear) glasses that have leaves on them, which I love.
They have been around for over 20 years, and still continue to appear on quite a few of my table settings!
So, thanks mom 🙂
Step #3: Add Table Decor/Accessories
Next it’s time to sprinkle in a couple of your favorite fall accessories to your runner.
- I added ivory candle in different sizes,
- And then added in some small white pumpkins and gourds.
Feel free to use whatever you have on hand.
TIP: Just remember, that you will just want to use smaller items that won’t interfere with your Thanksgiving platters or casserole dishes.
I did tie a gold tulle ribbon around my LED candles – just to be “extra” – LOL!!
And that’s just how I like to roll. 😉
Remember – it’s your table so use what makes you happy!
Here below you can see how the spacing of the table decor and centerpiece area looks from a top view.
Everything can be moved easily – when dinner platters come in.
- The 2 wheat bushels and candle/hurricane combo can be moved to the buffet behind the table.
- And I can even leave the cake stand out, and use the stand to serve something on it.
It’s all about setting a beautiful, yet functional table for your family and friends!
And You Are Done!
Bring on the Turkey!!
More After Pictures
Y’all know I love to take some after pictures – so here are a couple of different options!
Full View – with a wreath and chairs (more formal).
Full View – with a wreath and bench (more casual).
Side View – with natural daylight.
Full View – with lamps on for more drama (of course)!!
Have a Very Happy Fall & Thanksgiving!
Love & Grateful Hugs 🙂
