4 Tips: Transitioning Fall to Christmas Front Porch

Since everyone is super busy during the holiday season, the front porch tends to be the last in line to get decorated (but the first thing guests see – ugh)! So, I wanted to share some simple decorating ideas that you can use from fall…. all the way through winter. By using the same DIY white wreath, and painted white plants in black planters, you can transition from a fall front porch to a Halloween front porch, and then right into Christmas with only a few easy tweaks. 4 Tips: Transitioning Fall to Christmas Front Porch

I decided on to use the traditional red as my Christmas accent color for the front porch this year, because I already had the red snowflake doormat and red ribbon on hand.

But feel free to tweak the colors/accessories to fit your theme or style as needed.

Supplies:

(2 – 6ft. white garland strands) & (2 sets of 100 white lights)
*2.5″ red velvet ribbon
2 red berries bushes + (4 small, 4 medium green bushes)
red doormat

* I bought the red ribbon last year from Target, but they aren’t carrying it this year- sorry!

Just try to find a 2.5″ red ribbon (that coordinates with your red berry color).

Tips:

Add (white) garland to top of door
Change orange bow to red
Add greenery and red berries to planters
Change black doormat to red

This way you can get an idea of how easy it is to move from one season to the next, with only a handful of simple changes.

4 Tips: Transitioning Fall to Christmas Front Porch

Tip #1: Add (White) Garland to Top of Door

The first thing you’ll want to do is add Christmas garland to the top of your door (if possible).

Fluff your garland to make it nice and full.
Then wrap a set of lights around each garland strand, to give it some Christmas sparkle.
Next, hang it above your door.

*I chose white garland for our door – just to keep the white theme going. (But feel free to use green, flocked or iced-looking garland instead).

If using white garland, try to use lights with a white wire.

Otherwise the green wire will show 😉

Now it’s time to hang your garland up, outside.

Since I already had the cup hooks up (holding the orange Halloween lights), all I had to do was attach the white garland.

To make it easier, attach one garland strand to each side, then connect them together at the middle of your door.
Then adjust them so they drape to your liking.
