It all looks so elegant and yet still SO effortless – all at the same time (ugh)! They must be sprinkling some magic fairy dust – right?? Nope – just a little planning. So I’ve put together 6 easy tips and ideas to help you coordinate your holiday tree color palette (or theme) with your wrapping paper and tags. TIP #1: Choose 3-4 Coordinating Wrapping Paper Rolls

The first thing you will want to do is choose your wrapping paper colors and/or theme.

My color scheme this year is white, green, and navy, and my theme is “tree love.” See picture below.

1 solid color (green)
1 pattern (brown and green tree)
1 neutral (white and black tree)

Of course, a more general theme might be “winter wonderland,” etc.

And it’s really more of a mood/tone of your decoration – mixed with a certain color palette.

With 3 choices: Simple & Classic

With 4 choices: Rustic Wood Bark

With 4 choices: Glam Gold Dot

The 3 paper choices works best for the minimalist style, while the 4 paper choices works best for the maximalist style.

The 4th Wood Bark choice adds some texture – while keeping things neutral or rustic.
Whereas the 4th Gold Dot choice adds metallic shimmer – bringing in a touch of glam or elegance.

I just wanted to show you the difference of adding in that “fourth choice” of wrapping paper.

TIP #2: Pick 1-2 Ribbon Colors

Now that you have chosen your wrapping paper, it’s time to choose ribbon colors.

I have chosen white and navy ribbons for mine to help coordinate with my wrapping paper and tree (color palette).

Choose One Color for minimalist style.
Choose Two Colors for maximalist style.

Just to note maximalist style doesn’t mean “crazy” style, but just simply a “busier” look.

I should have added a third option:

Choose 3 ribbon colors + different sizes = Jael’s style (hahaha!!)
I definitely like a busy (+ crazier look) and have to “clean things up” a little so it doesn’t get out-of- hand!!

Here are some presents wrapped with the 3 wrapping paper choices + 3 ribbon choices: white, navy, AND jute.

TIP #3: Make Homemade Coordinating Gift Tags

The easiest way to coordinate your wrapping paper and gift tags is you make your own (tags) with leftover paper or scrapbook paper.

Plus, it is very budget-friendly and can be a great family project for you and your kiddos. (Yep – means more wine – lol)!!

Here below you can see that I made a tree gift tag from the green paper also – just to tie in the green again.

And the birch bark (scrapbook) paper coordinates with the wood bark wrapping paper.

(P.S. – I would have used the wood bark wrapping paper for the gift tags, but I’ve got another project in the works and needed it for that). 😉

TIP #4: Choose Boxes In Multiple Shapes & Sizes

When you are wrapping gifts, try to use boxes that are different shapes and sizes (if you can).

I know that some items already come in a designated box, and that makes life SO much easier! But for some of those other items, choose a variety of box styles and sizes.

In the picture below, you can see how the different sizes play well with each other when stacking upright.

This works perfect for the side areas of the tree and back of the tree. We’ll see how this comes together in Step #5: (under Presentation).

In this next picture, you can see that this grouping sits lower and works great for the front area of the tree (also in Step #5).

This will also work perfectly if you need to wrap 2 or 3 gifts together – as one gift.

TIP #5: Coordinate with Tree Color or Theme

Now it’s time to “decorate” the bottom of your tree! This is where all of your planning and color coordinating finally come together!

You can see that I have a green and white tree (and gold) tree, but a navy and white color palette in our living room.

So how can I pull the tree theme, green, and wood “birch bark” styles together in here?

Add a Solid-Colored Tree Skirt:

The first thing to do is begin with a solid-colored tree skirt. It provides the base (or anchor) of the tree.

I chose a ivory/cream-colored tree skirt for my tree – which helps unify the tree, gifts, and the entire room’s color palette.

Pop of Color: Blue

So even though I didn’t need a ton of navy for the tree (with the louder curtains), I wanted to add a pop of blue just to tie the tree and room together.

You may have a different color in your room, so just use a ribbon that unifies the room and tree.
Even neutral-colored ribbons like gold, silver, or burlap – add a pop of color.

Presentation:

And we have all heard that presentation is everything – right??

It’s amazing how the entire look of the tree changes once those gifts are added.

Presentation and gift placement – now become the main attraction of the room, by bringing the focal point to the tree itself (especially at the base).
