Ok – let’s get to the 5 simple Christmas Decorating Tips!!

5 Simple Christmas Decorating Tips

TIP #1:  Use Serving Trays & Cake Stands

One of the easiest ways to decorate for Christmas is to put a small group of items onto a tray.

But don’t forget about using things you already have on hand like:

  • serving trays, cake stands/plates, chargers or even 3-tier stands.

Use them to elevate items on a entry console or kitchen coffee/hot chocolate bar, or simply just add Christmas balls, candles or greenery.

The next 2 pictures below are my new finds this year, and I love them!

The first one is a simple (slim), white ceramic serving tray that is a perfect fit for our entry console table.

And the second one is this 3-tier serving stand that I used for our Christmas coffee/hot chocolate bar.

  • Both of these trays could also be used in your guest bathroom for toiletries or even small bath towels.
  • You can use Christmas-themed or red-green colored trays also.

Just have fun and go for it!!

TIP #2:  Add Inspirational Signs or Scriptures

Christmas just would not be – well Christmas – without spreading the good news of Jesus Christ!

So go ahead and shout it from the mountain tops.

  • Use wall signs with words from Christmas songs and scripture verses, or just place inspirational words and phrases into bookcases or open shelving.

Don’t forget about your kitchen decorations also!  It’s the hub of the home – especially for the Christmas season!!

  • Use Merry Wishes on signs, coffee mugs, paper goods, or anywhere else you can think of spreading a little extra cheer.

TIP #3:  Use Trees, Trees, and More Trees

This probably seems like a no-brainer, but try to think outside of the box for this one.

Use different sizes (and colors) of trees, and spread them around your house.  And they don’t have to be your “typical” green tree.

  • You can use ceramic trees, 3-dimensional trees, bottle brush trees, fabric trees, yarn trees, wall trees and even mini trees in lanterns.

I am loving these adorable little green yarn trees and navy plaid fabric trees from Target.

They just add a little whimsy to the living room bookcase.

Don’t forget about your dining room or kitchen table too.

  • Put decorative trees into groups to make a larger impact.

Use trees to decorate nightstands or dressers in your master bedroom or even a Christmas guest room.

  • Plus, you can mix and match different sizes and textures to create added interest to your vignettes.

And of course, there is the traditional tree.

It is the main act, the show-stopper, and the heart of the Christmas home.

TIP #4:  Mix in Reindeer, Presents, & Sleighs

Try to bring in some traditional Christmas decor like reindeer, presents, sleighs, and more.

Use these items all around your house to add a little holiday magic for your family and friends.

  • Just place a pair of reindeer on your coffee table to bring in some additional sparkle and “wintry” feeling.

Or try some some furry presents on a woven tray in your bedroom to bring in a sense of texture and warmth.

  • You can always make your own – DIY style – or simply wrap empty boxes with Christmas-themed wrapping paper (that you already have on hand).

Get creative with your sleighs also.

  • Use them for holding coffee pods in your kitchen.

Or use them in your powder or guest bathroom to hold hand towels (or even toilet paper).

TIP #5:  Add Tons Of Greenery Everywhere

Adding Christmas greenery – everywhere – is probably the most important element of all holiday decorating tips!

You can use natural greenery, flocked greenery, Christmas picks with pinecones or frosted eucalyptus, swags, pine sprays, wall wreaths and more.

And you can add it to every room in your house too:

  • entry staircase or railings, console tables, or baskets
  • dining room mirrors, buffet consoles, or chandeliers
  • kitchen windows wreaths, cabinets, over-the-sink window garland, or light pendants
  • master bedroom wall decoration, breakfast trays, headboard garland
  • living room windows, mantels, coffee tables, bookshelves, and over threshold openings

In the picture below, I just simply added two shimmery green stems to the top of our dining room mirror to add color and some depth.

You can also use the greenery picks or stems in vases or on trays (as fillers) also.

  • Just add a couple of long flocked stems to taller vases, or tuck smaller greenery picks onto a tray.

Try adding some greenery to your empty walls or window frames also.

  • Fill in some of those gaps in the kitchen or even master/guest bedrooms with wall wreaths.

And don’t forget about your staircase railings or entryway – they need some love too!

  • Just adding a little touch of greenery goes a long way, and it doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive (like these pine sprays below).
