55 INCREDIBLE BARN DOOR IDEAS:
NOT JUST FOR FARMHOUSE STYLE
FIRST THINGS FIRST:
So what makes sliding barn doors so special? They can:

- Be used in any decor style – (not just for modern farmhouse style anymore)
- Used in tight spaces- (they move side to side vs. in an arc motion with doors on hinges)
- Add architectural design to a plain wall – (you choose the door style, ranging from simplistic to ornate)
- Used to hide items you don’t want seen – (tv’s, bookshelf clutter, pantry items, laundry, etc.)
- Be used as window treatments
- Be used as a single door, double door, or even quadruple doors
- Used with glass to let light in
- Be used with mirrors to reflect light or use for full-length viewing
- Be used with chalkboards to add function and whimsy
- Even be used outdoors – yep check out #9!!
SECOND:
I have 2 sliding barn doors in my own house: 1) a pair that replaced french doors to our office/piano room (see below), and 2) one in my bedroom to my master bath (see 2nd set below).
And I absolutely LOVE them and highly recommend them!

Both of these rooms had awkward areas for opening up the doors into the room. As a result, this awkward area became useless and really limited furniture placement.
By adding the sliding barn doors, we actually gained usable space, allowing for better flow/better function of both rooms.
We installed the office doors on the outside wall (entry wall- above) to gain more space inside the room, and also to add detail to the tall foyer walls.
In the bedroom we added one large door (below), and had it slide to an area that we did not use.
It was a no-brainer for us! Click Master Bath Remodel: Hardware Accessories and Home Tour: Coastal Farmhouse Master Bedroom to see more of our home.

***TIP*** As you scroll through the different sliding barn door ideas and styles, keep a piece of paper handy and write down the numbers to the ones that really grab your attention.
This will help you decide on pattern/color/style, and help you “picture” where you might want to use them in your own house.

It is hard to believe that the barn doors compliment the modern day style.
i know!! And i think that’s what they make them so interesting and so popular. Each door is so unique and adds such architectural appeal to each home- love them!!
Alright, you talked me to into, I am going to make some barn doors and replace some of my interior doors.
LOL – you’ll love them Chris ๐
Can’t wait to hear how they turn out!

Lol – I will definitely let you know how they come out!
I’ve never had barn doors but love the idea and look of them. Can you tell me though, do the doors flap at the bottom because they are not rolling/sliding on a rail/guide?
Hi Kimberly! Neither of my 2 barn doors flap at the bottom – but I have heard of this happening.
My recommendations would be to make sure you have reputable barn door hardware (for sliding), solid doors (helps weigh them down), and use someone who can install them properly. This should cut down on any chance of them flapping. I LOVE my doors, and would choose them again in another house.
Hope this helps.
