DIY BUFFALO CHECK EMBROIDERY HOOP ORNAMENTS (PART 2)

FIRST THINGS FIRST:

Let me start at the beginning.  I decided to make these ornaments to give our family a little Christmas cheer – after we flooded from Hurricane Harvey.

We were living upstairs at the time, and really had nowhere to make anything or display anything for the holidays.  But I knew that we NEEDED a way to celebrate the Christmas season, and this little trio was the answer to our prayers!

So, even though the work space for creating a little Christmas magic was not ideal, and there was only one wall that could even be used to display them on, they did the trick!!

And when we could no longer keep the construction dust off of them, they got a new home and were moved to the front door – as a snowman.

Here is what they looked like unedited.

That plastic tent upstairs to the left is where we were living for 9 months.

Where there is a will, there is a way ladies!!  Jesus is the reason for the season – Amen!!

Let’s get to it!

DIY BUFFALO CHECK EMBROIDERY HOOP ORNAMENTS (PART 2)

Click Snowman (Part 1 of the series), for the supplies needed, AND the tutorial on making the buffalo check hoops.

And here are the supplies needed for part 2:  with the navy ribbon and pom pom ornaments.

SUPPLIES PART 2:

  • navy ribbon
  • white fur ornament balls (set of 6- used 3)
  • 2 white pom pom picks

STEP 1:    ADD BOWS & POM POM PICKS TO HOOPS

Once you have made the 3 embroidery hoops, you can add the ribbon, bows, and fur balls picks.

FOR LARGE HOOP:

I used the gold organza ribbon for the larger bow and tied it off with the shiny gold ribbon.

Then I simply tucked the 2 white pom pom picks into the right and left sides of the bow.

FOR MEDIUM HOOP:

I used the gold polka dot ribbon to make a bow and tied it to the embroidery hoop with the other solid gold ribbons.

I decided to make this bow a little bit smaller to fit the scale of the hoop.

FOR SMALL HOOP:

I used the large gold ribbon to make the bow for the small hoop, but decided to attach it a little off-centered.

I just thought it would add a little whimsy if one of the bows was “crooked.”

STEP 2:    ADD BOWS TO FUR ORNAMENT BALLS

For the fur ornaments (large pom poms), I simply tied a ribbon to the ornament’s clear “hanger.”

I used the navy ribbon for the single fur ball and dot gold ribbon for the double fur balls.

STEP 3:    HANG ORNAMENTS AND POM POMS

Here are the ribbon lengths, and hanging directions for your embroidery hoops and pom poms.  The navy ribbon I used is 2.5″wide, but you can choose whatever width you want.

The larger the ribbon width, the larger the wall space that is taken up.  Since my staircase wall is a large area, I wanted to fill more of it up.

Where to put nails or hangers:

1) Starting with LARGE HOOP:  go (19.5″ Right, 4″ Down)……. for 2 fur balls

2) From 2 FUR BALLS: go (12″ Up, 8″ Right) …..for small hoop

3) From LARGE HOOP again:  go (18″ Up, 8″ Right) for medium ball

4) From LARGE HOOP again:  go (11″ Left, 10″ Up)

YOU ARE DONE!!  ENJOY YOUR BUFFALO CHECK CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS…. with NAVY RIBBON!!

OR….WITHOUT NAVY RIBBON

And Christmas 2019 – I just switched out the smaller 2, and changed the color palette.
